Starting in May 2013….Icelandair will offer twice-weekly nonstop service “over-the-top” from Anchorage to Reykjavik, Iceland.

Our friends at Visit Anchorage are pretty excited. Prices from Anchorage to Reykjavik, Iceland start at $714 roundtrip in May and June, 2013. Iceland president Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson was in Anchorage to attend the “Arctic Imperative” conference–what better evangelist for the new service? The president of the country!! (Photo by Lindsey Whitt).

Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan (L) and Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell (R), join Iceland president Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson during a visit to the governor’s office.

The first flight is May 16, 2013. Icelandair boasts connecting service to dozens of destinations throughout Europe, including Paris, London, Barcelona…check the whole list.

Icelandair’s outbound flights leave on Mondays and Thursdays at 3:15pm, arriving in Reykjavik the following morning at 6:30am. Return flights on Wednesdays and Sundays leave Reykjavik at 5:10pm…flying through the time warp to arrive earlier on the same day, at 4:20pm. Nice trick!
