We love Alaska’s Marine Highway

That’s “the ferry“.  Above, a willing passenger snapped this shot aboard the m/v LeConte on a sunny January day between Sitka and Juneau. This winter, there is a 30 percent discount through Mar. 31, 2011 on routes for “mirror round trips”. The discount applies to adults, kids and vehicles. CHECK THE WEBSITE.

There is new service coming next year from the ferry!

a. New service to Gustavus from Juneau. Starting in June, the m/v LeConte will make a weekly trip from Juneau to the gateway community for Glacier Bay National Park. The trip is beautiful–and you could spend at least a week exploring this beautiful national park, particularly if you have a kayak!

b. Beginning in May, the m/v Kennicott will begin direct service from Bellingham all the way across the Gulf of Alaska to Whittier. En route, the ship will call in Ketchikan, Juneau and Yakutat.

c. Starting in April, the m/v Tustumena (pictured above, sailing past the Cliff House. Photo by Marion Owen.) will begin twice-monthly service to communities in the Aleutians including Sand Point, King Cove, Cold Bay, Akutan and Dutch Harbor.
