What a great trip we had over to Valdez. Make plans now to visit Alaska’s own “Little Switzerland”. Fishing. Kayaking. Mountain Biking. Hiking. Glacier Cruising. Pick one. Pick all. HA!
The road from Anchorage is easy, but long (305 miles). It’s up the Matanuska Valley, past Sheep Mountain Lodge to Glennallen. Then, turn south and head down the Richardson Highway to Thompson Pass. Take time to stretch our legs at Worthington Glacier. And snap some pics of Bridal Veil Falls and Horsetail Falls in Keystone Canyon. Great stuff!
While we were there, we tasted some great Pink Salmon recipes in the first annual Valdez Pink Salmon Cookoff. Here’s a link to the photo album, including the kids’ pink salmon races!!
Colleen Stephens of Stan Stephens Cruises was kind enough to post the recipes HERE. Make special note of the “SALMON BURGER RECIPE“. One of my favorites, for sure.
Check out the write-up in the Alaska Dispatch. And here’s a link to the video of the Valdez-Whittier ride on the Chenega.
Here’s a link to the photo album of our kayak adventure with Pangaea Adventures.
Stay at the Best Western Valdez Harbor Inn. There’s a two-for-one coupon in the Great Alaskan TourSaver.
