Denali flightseeing tour.
Yup, just like the climbers who make the trek to the top of “The Great One”, you can hop aboard a plane and land on a glacier. We flew with Sheldon Air Service of Talkeetna in a vintage deHavilland DHC-2 “Beaver”. Pilot Dave Lee has flown thousands of hours around Denali and the Alaska range. His wife, Holly Lee, is a third-generation Alaska aviator. Her dad, Don Sheldon, built the “Mountain House” at the Ruth Glacier and was a legendary Alaska aviator. Her grandfather, Bob Reeve, was the founder of Reeve Aleutian Airways.
Dave and Holly specialize in taking small groups and independent travelers from the airport in Talkeetna up to Denali. Three tours are available: Blue (Mountain House Tour for $285), Yellow (Base camp tour to the Kahiltna Glacier for $325) or the Red tour (Denali Grand Tour including a flight around the north side of the mountain for $450). We took the Blue tour because we really wanted to land on the Ruth Glacier!
