Alaska Air: Costa Rica, here we come!

In Adventure, Airfares, Travel Deals, Travel Stories by scott

Big news from Alaska Airlines: they will fly nonstop from Los Angeles to Costa Rica starting Oct. 31, 2015! Three days a week, they will fly to the capital, San Jose, Costa Rica. And three days a week, they will fly to Liberia, the other international airport in the northwestern region of the country.

Fares will be released once the routes are approved by government authorities!

That’s just one of the big announcements from Alaska. Also on tap for this fall: nonstop service from Seattle to three more cities: Charleston, SC, Nashville, TN and Raleigh/Durham, NC.

Are you ready to fly? Here are some good deals. Here are some more g-r-e-a-t rates:

Anchorage-Portland: as low as $133 each way for travel starting June 22
Anchorage-Los Angeles/LAX: as low as $169 each way starts June 18.
Fairbanks-Portland: $178 each way for travel starting June 7.
Fairbanks-Seattle: $111 each way starting June 1.
Juneau-Seattle: $95 each way  starts June 1.
Ketchikan-Seattle: $95 each way starts June 1.
Sitka-Seattle: $87 each way starts June 1.

The folks at Alaska Air are pretty excited about their new “BEYOND” initiative. They’re proud, too. And why not? New meal choices by Seattle über-chef Tom Douglas, special wine and spirits in “F” A-N-D in the back of the bus…even a brand-new inflight entertainment (IFE) system with first-run movies, tv shows, music…the works. Check it out on your next flight. In the meantime, click through the photos I took on a special “flight to nowhere” from the Museum of Flight in Seattle. SERIOUSLY, they brought in one of their new planes (a 737-900ER)  up to the DOOR at the museum and loaded us up. I am NOT making this up. Click through for the PROOF! HA.
