Do you want to take an exciting winter adventure? Hop aboard the mighty Alaska Railroad for their weekend train between Anchorage and Fairbanks. It’s called the “Aurora Train”. No, really: it’s awesome. I went last winter–there are awesome views of Denali just north of Talkeetna. In fact, the engineer stops the train so everyone can snap a few shots. But that’s just one of the picture-perfect moments on the 12-hour ride. It’s a stunning ride along the border with Denali Park–particularly when the mountains are covered with snow.
Plan ahead to visit Fairbanks during the World Ice Art Championships . The railroad has added several mid-week departures, in addition to the regular Saturday north/Sunday south schedule.
The railroad has packages available for weekend trips from Anchorage to Talkeetna, winter adventures north of Fairbanks and several other options (including fly/rail packages!). LEARN MORE.
