LIVE from Homer, Alaska

Just another beautiful day at Land’s End in Homer, Alaska. There are two parts to the resort at the End of the Spit: the hotel and the lodges. If you’re traveling with your family, check out Land’s End Lodges–the luxury beachfront condos adjacent to the hotel. These two-story cottages are nestled right up on the beach stunning views across Kachemak Bay.

Each condo is a little different (they’re privately-owned). All the views, tho’, are spectacular.

I’m ashamed to say I’ve lived in Alaska for 35 years and yesterday was the first time I went hiking in Kachemak Bay State Park. Why? Well, you have to take a water taxi from the Homer Spit to get there. Our hike up to Grewingk Glacier required a 30-minute ride with Mako’s Water Taxi in each direction. The cost was $80 per person. Our boatman, Colin, drove the “Danika J” right up on the beach and dropped the ramp.

Nobody got their feet wet–and we proceeded to tramp up the trail to the glacier. The trail was well-marked and relatively flat, as we were hiking over a well-worn glacial moraine, which now is well-forested with cottonwood trees and devil’s club. I have welts on my hands to prove it, by the way. HAHA. But the views are spectacular.

And whether you opt for some kayaking over in Tutka Bay, or a wildlife cruise to Seldovia (with accompanying hike on the “Otter Bahn” to Outside Beach), Homer remains a wonderful outdoor playground this month. Call Land’s End Resort today and book your fall adventure. Eat at the Chart Room (tell Darryl I sent you). Get a massage at Spa. Soak in the hot tub on the beach. All that jazz. DO IT.
