Hiking under the Root Glacier with St. Elias Alpine Guides!

Plan your trip to McCarthy/Kennicott in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, America’s largest park! Choose from great deals and new activities this year, including a ZIP LINE from Alaska Boreal Canopy Adventures!RiverViewZip6

Your zipline adventure begins on the  Nizina Road to the Canopy Welcome Center. This road was a pioneer route blazed in the early 1900s to the gold and copper mines south and east of McCarthy and Kennicott. At the Welcome Center, gear up and learn the basic techniques of zipping. Then it’s off on your aerial adventure. Perched on the Nizina River bluffs, our wilderness canopy course has 6 zip lines, 3 sky bridges, 2 ladders and a short ground hike through the forest. More info: CLICK HERE.

St. Elias Alpine Guides offers some WILD adventures in the park. Check ’em out:

a. Nizina River Wild. This is a five-day multi-sport rafting and hiking adventure.

b. Ice Cave Exploration(see photo, top). This is for rugged hikers (s-t-r-e-n-u-o-u-s) who already have been out on the Root Glacier. Now comes the chance to see the AMAZING blue ice underneath!

c. Kayaking at the toe of the Kennicott Glacier. Paddle your own inflatable kayaking around the icebergs and rock formations, learn about glaciology and other natural history.

REAL Bush Planes…and REAL Bush Pilots!! Wrangell Mountain Air offers several ways to get back into the park. First, you can fly from Chitina (the end of the paved road on the shores of the Copper River) back to McCarthy. They have scheduled service each day. But for some awesome views, take your flightseeing trip from McCarthy! You’ll see glaciers, old mining camps, huge mountain peaks and river valleys! Top adventurers use Wrangell Mountain Air for their backcountry flights. Ask them about custom trips for hiking, technical climbing or just plain adventure!kgl
