We had a wonderful Christmas dinner with friends in Eagle River, even though the lights went out just as we sat down.
Our friends at KTUU in Anchorage wanted to get the full, entire story, complete with photos. KTUU’s Jackie Bartz gives us a run-down of the power outage, including an interview with Matanuska Electric Association general manager Joe Griffith. We, however, were oblivious to the bigger picture–aside from noticing the entire neighborhood was dark. A feast lay before us: in addition to ham, scalloped potatoes and mushroom risotto, we had a lovely Pinot Noir from New Zealand. Although I didn’t have my headlamp handy, my HTC Desire from GCI put out plenty of light while we were scrambling around for candles and such.
