USTravel‘s Melinda Spires (Our go-to-gal for all things Disney) sez: Spend Christmas at Walt Disney World!
“Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Parade is a MUST SEE for anyone traveling to Disney during the holidays.
“There are decorations and lights everywhere, cafes serve favorites like pumpkin pie and hot chocolate and overall, there is just this energy in the park that adds that extra one-two punch of Disney magic.,” she writes.
“The Grand Floridian resort builds one of the world’s largest gingerbread houses, right in the lobby, every year! They also sell freshly baked gingerbread and other Christmas goodies near the
house. (And by freshly baked, I mean, a team works round the clock during
the Holidays to keep up with demand. One of my mom’s friends was a baker
there.),” said Melinda.
“The hotel also does a very special Christmas
dinner with the characters. It’s buffet style, but they offer the holiday
food (turkey, ham) and all the trimmings (dressing, cranberries, pumpkin
everything). Mickey and Minnie (I think Pluto, Goofy and Donald attend,
too) put on their very best Christmas outfits and circulate. Let me tell
you, for a kid, there is nothing more exciting than Christmas with MICKEY MOUSE at your dinner table!” she writes.
Visit Epcot for the ultimate Disney Christmas experience, because then you
get to see “Holidays Around the World”. That is Epcot’s annual celebration,
and each country (World Showcase) decorates for the celebrations, including
customary dress, and food and drink, (sometimes performances, too!)
Melinda shares some more inside tips: “A little tidbit, too, for the Grinches (or for those who’ve already seen
the parade once during the day!) . At Magic Kingdom, during Mickey’s Very
Merry Christmas Parade, that is the BEST time to ride all the rides that
have loooooong lines (Splash/Space/Big Thunder Mountains, Pirates, etc).
Anything you could possibly spend 2+ hours in line for during the Christmas
rush can be a 30 min or less wait during the parade. Plus, if you have a Fast Pass for around those times, it might be possible to ride the ride TWICE in a very short time! (Well worth it if you have favorites.)”
