“Food, Glorious FOOD.” It’s a great song from the movie “Oliver”. But hunger is a real problem in America today. So bag up some non-perishable food products and put them out by the mailbox TOMORROW morning (Sat., May 9).

Our Letter Carrier, Ann Holbrook, reminded me that TOMORROW is The Letter Carriers National Food Drive. Ann writes:  “The food drive is always the second Saturday in May.   Always the day before Mothers Day.  This year is our 17th year.stamp Last year a total of over 73 million pounds was collected through out the US, Puerto Rico, Us Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia.   But with the way the economy is this year we are all praying and hoping to collect at least half of that,  around the nation.   All people have to do is leave non-perishable food items at their mail box on Saturday May 9th, (E-a-r-l-y).   The Letter Carriers do the rest.”

Folks, get some food out to your mailbox tomorrow morning, please. Non-perishable items–in a bag. Let’s all help to Stamp Out Hunger with our Letter Carriers!

Thanks, Ann, for taking the lead here in our neighborhood in Anchorage, Alaska. Remember, tho’. The food drive is NATIONWIDE! Heck, 13 million kids are at risk for hunger in America. Even a few cans of Campbell’s Soup will make a difference!!
