Remember, Glacier Bay is just 60 miles from Juneau. The folks who run Glacier Bay Lodge inside the park also offer a whale watching dinner cruise and a ferry between Juneau and Glacier Bay.
When you stay two nights at the lodge, you get a 2-for-1 ticket for either the ferry ride or the whale watch/dinner cruise.
The ferry runs from Juneau on Fridays and Sundays (perfect for a weekend getaway). The whale watch runs on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
I think the key attraction at Glacier Bay is the day-long cruise into the park. You’ll see glaciers, wildlife (sea lions, bear, whales, puffins and all sorts of other critters) and remnants of mining history in the bay. You’ll learn about the history of Glacier Bay from the time John Muir first told about the spectacle many years ago!
