Now that snow has covered our winter landscape, the Nordic Spa at Alyeska really shows its colors. Walk through the resort and past the tram to get to the spa. Now that it’s cold outside, you can see the steam coming off of the hot pools.
And when you’re sitting in the hot pool, those snowflakes really do stay on your nose and eyelashes! Hum along with me!
Check in and get your robe, towel and slippers. I didn’t know what to do…but the staff explained it: turn left and follow the path. The first stop is the FInnish sauna, followed by a cold plunge pool. Then, there’s a warm pool. If you wish, there’s a pool with a cold waterfall that washes over you to give you a jolt. Then…to the steam room (the steam room was closed when we visited). There are a couple more warm pools on the circuit…but then there’s the “Forest Loop” which is a series of “barrel saunas”, with cold and warm pools in between. Be sure and try the “classic” sauna with salt walls.
Spa manager James WIlson recommends budgeting “at least four hours” for your spa day. I think it’s also a good idea to book a massage either before or after your soak-and-sweat circuit.
The spa also features a restaurant (it was closed during our visit) and a bar with all sorts of healthy concoctions. Oh, there also are several custom-crafted cocktails on the menu.
Here are some good deals on spa packages:
1. Save 20 percent on massages at 8:45 a.m. and at 7:45 p.m., Monday-Friday. When you book a massage, it includes access to the pools and saunas.
2. Black Friday Bliss. Buy a $100 gift card at the spa and get a $20 bonus card.
3. Nordic Nights package. Includes overnight accommodations at the resort, $25 credit at the restaurant/bar, plus spa access 5-9pm.
The spa is a cellphone-free zone.
