LAST MINUTE: Sail Croatia in Aug-Sept with Janine

In Alaska Travelgram by scott

Janine Amon poses on the bow of the “Royal Clipper”. Join her in Venice on Aug. 28 for a one-week cruise of Croatia.

(This just in from fellow traveler Janine Amon. I’ve known Janine for m-a-n-y years and traveled with her in the U.S. She’s always happiest aboard a boat, so here’s a chance to sail with her on a five-masted ship, the “Royal Clipper”! I hope some of you can join her! —Scott)

I have been in love with Croatia my whole life. When I was a kid, it was called Yugoslavia, and it was the far-away place when my Grandparents were born and raised. They sailed across the Atlantic in their 20’s, a long journey in a rickety boat, and settled near Chicago where my Mom was born. The stories my gypsy grandmother told of the coastal communities, the ancient castles, the grapevines, melons, gardens and fresh fish…I was intrigued.

Many years later, I met fabulous Katarina at a Travel show in Vegas… she was selling Croatia and had my Nana’s name! At her invitation I visited and spent a few days on her boats, and I fell in love, HARD.

Looking back from the bow nets on the Royal Clipper.

I have been back a half dozen times to Croatia and Slovenia, and my love evolves. I have shown dozens of friends the beautiful coastline. We’ve enjoyed the perfect San Diego-esque weather, and the Mediterranean people, food and wine. We’ve danced under the moon in cobblestone courtyards, swam in perfect crystalline water, and climbed on spectacular medieval ruins.

Then, Covid.… after having this trip cancelled, moved and reorganized twice, I am finally sailing again along the Dalmatian Coast! In about 2 months, I will meet a small group of friends, and we will depart Venice on 28 August for a week. We will be exploring islands, visiting Dubrovnik, (one of the greatest cities of Europe!), enjoying Kotor, Montenegro and returning to Venice on September 4th.

And, wonder of wonders, there is availability for a few lovely people to join me on Royal Clipper! Prices range from $1960-$4,780 per person, double. Includes accommodations, meals and some extras. Most drinks and activities are additional. Also included: $75 shipboard credit per person. Departs Venice on Aug. 28. Call with questions: (907)223-2344 or email:  [email protected]

Royal Clipper under sail

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? This will be a week of swimming and diving, beaches, fabulous food and wine, yoga, exploring, photography, hiking, shopping… and sailing.

Royal Clipper was inspired by the tall ship Preussen, launched in 1902 as the largest, fastest sailing ship in the world.  The Royal Clipper is the only five-masted full-rigged sailing ship built since Preussen. With 42 sails flying, Royal Clipper is a splendid sight to behold. She looks like an apparition from the grand age of sail, but also boasts state-of-the-art electronics and every comfort and luxury. For connoisseurs of sail cruising, the 439 foot Royal Clipper offers the ultimate sea-going experience, balancing the grandeur, adventure and tradition of sailing with the superb service, amenities and accommodations of the finest modern yacht. Cabins are roomy and comfortable, with marble bathrooms and showers. There is 19,000 square feet of open deck, creating a spacious and expansive outdoor environment.

I‘ve sailed Star Clipper vessels both North and South in the Caribbean and in Indonesia. They are classy, adventurous and reasonably priced. You can take a turn at the helm, raise a sail or two and I never miss the chance to climb aloft and to look out over the deck as the adventure at sea unfolds! Or, just sit in a comfortable chair with a glass of champagne and make new friends!

If you are interested, I want to hear from you! 2022 Croatia sailings are currently sold out, but there’s availability on my 28 August 2021 sailing in every cabin category, from basic to fancy. Aren’t we all madly, sadly overdue for a grand adventure? Come jump onboard with me! LEARN MORE.

Janine and her daughter Katrina bask in the setting sun.
