Next week, the Alaska Native Heritage Center is celebrating Southeast Alaska Native Culture.
This is a big event–featuring the raising of four house posts that master carvers have been working on all summer!
Here’s a rundown of the day-by-day themes:
Monday: Respect for Culture (Eyak)
Tuesday: Respect for Self (Tlingit)
Wednesday: Respect for Environment (Tsimshian)
Thursday: Respect for Family (Haida)
On Friday, they will name the Southeast Clan House, which is adjacent to where the master carvers have been working on the Totem Poles.
Go and visit the Heritage Center–and see the artisans at work. Watch the dancers. Talk to the artists making clothing and jewelry. Learn about Alaska’s Native Culture.
There are special prices available both for Alaska Residents and for those visitors who want to visit both the Heritage Center and the Anchorage Museum (Culture Pass).
