a. Anchorage Museum The Anchorage Museum just completed its 80,000 square foot
expansion! Check out the Thomas Planetarium, the new Imaginarium Discovery Center, and the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center. The Smithsonian Institution will loan more than 600 indigenous Alaska artifacts to the exhibit, including rare cultural treasures like an 1893 Tlingit war helmet. The exhibit is designed to allow researchers, artists and Native Elders hands-on access to artifacts. Advanced touch screens allow other visitors to study each item in stunning detail as well.

b. Alaska Native Heritage Center. If you want to learn about Native Alaskans, this is the place. The center opens for the summer season tomorrow (May 9)! In addition to the permanent displays, including the native dwellings recreated around the lake, there are regular performances, plus artists working on the grounds.
