Angling for an Alaska adventure? Plan a trip to the heart of the nation’s largest national park: Wrangell-St. Elias.

Stay at the Kennicott Glacier Lodge, on “Main Street” in Kennicott (building with the white roof in lower right-hand corner, above). They’ve got a great “bed and breakfast” package that includes accommodations in the main lodge. It’s a shared bath/shower down the hall–but we actually prefer the main lodge because of the comfy lounge, warm fireplace and cozy atmosphere. The cost is $79 per person per night–and it includes a delicious breakfast. You can order a bag lunch to take with you on your adventures. Toss it in the backpack and off you go!

Climbing with St. Elias Alpine Guides

Explore the old mill building–or strike out on hikes around the area, including the Bonanza Mine high above town. It’s a tough hike–but the payoff is fantastic–a Million-Dollar View!

Speaking of Million-Dollar Views, take a flightseeing tour with Wrangell Mountain Air. You can choose from an extensive air tour–or pick a place in the park to go hiking–and Wrangell Mountain Air can pick you up after a few hours in the park!

It’s a great way to get a bird’s-eye-view of the Kennicott area, as well as some up-close views of awesome glaciers which surround it!

And while you’re at Kennicott, set aside some time to walk out on the glacier! Choose from several adventures, including a half-day glacier hike. Your guide will provide crampons and offer tips for walking on the glaciers themselves. In fact–you can try some ice climbing! Don’t laugh–it’s FUN!
