Fares. Whole fares. Nothing but the fares.

In Airfares, Alaska Travelgram, Consumer by scott

Every now and then, I have to dive in and dig for deals. Good news: Found some. Bad news: not many. Many of these fares are over-the-top too high. But many are much lower (as much as 40 percent lower) as a result of United‘s new fares. Once United put in the lower fares, other carriers (including Alaska Airlines and Delta) matched them. Not always, but nearly always. It gives me hope that we’ll see more fare-related fireworks as summer approaches. But remember–these rates are good today!
Another ah-ha: Although United filed the new fares, they fly few of the routes themselves. The first leg of the trip is either on Continental or USAir. Both carriers partner with United in the “Star Alliance“.  To many of the destinations we’re featuring here, the last segment is flown by a regional carrier such as Mesa, SkyWest, Republic or Mesaba. It’s the nature of things these days in the blended, collusive world of airline alliances.
Back to the fares. I checked every single one of these fares to make sure they were valid–mostly during the month of April. Check w/USTravel for details: (907)561-2434 or toll-free (800)544-2217. They charge a ticketing fee (typically $38 for interstate tickets), but they’ll actually find the fares for you. Professionals like Melinda and Kelly Jo will save you time–and you’ll know you’re getting the best deal. All fares listed are roundtrip, all-in (including all taxes and fees).
