Eurowings Discover, the leisure travel subsidiary of Lufthansa, landed in Anchorage yesterday. The German airline will provide nonstop service three times per week between Anchorage and Frankfurt through Sept. 10, 2022.

Eurowings Discover is competing directly with Condor, which resumed 3x weekly Anchorage-Frankfurt service on May 21 after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Capt. Wolfgang Raebiger is CEO of Eurowings Discover

Eurowings’ CEO Wolfgang Raebiger was the pilot-in-command on today’s mission from Frankfurt on an Airbus A330-343 model. This specific aircraft, tail number “D-AFYR” is just 6.5 years old.

In conjunction with its partner Lufthansa, Eurowings serves all European destinations through Frankfurt, including:

Anchorage-Frankfurt $1,110 rt starts July 14
Anchorage-Paris $1,159 rt starts July 14
Anchorage-Rome $1,150 rt starts July 14

Anchorage-Athens $1,166 rt starts 7/14
Anchorage-Prague $1,145 rt starts 7/14

IMPORTANT: Flights are available RIGHT AWAY, but they are v-e-r-y expensive. For example, to fly from Anchorage nonstop to Frankfurt June 18-25 is $2,560 roundtrip (for the same dates, Condor charges $975 roundtrip). Plan ahead for the best rates.

Eurowings, as a Lufthansa Group airline, is part of the Star Alliance cartel. That includes Air Canada, United, Aegean, Air New Zealand, among others. According to Capt. Raebiger, Eurowings is a very new airline—embarking on an ambitious schedule of new destinations linking the U.S. with its hub in Frankfurt. In addition to Anchorage, recent launches include Salt Lake City and Tampa.
