Avis in Alaska: rent a car. Then buy one.

I rent a lot of cars. In Alaska, I usually rent from Avis–because they have offices all over: Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Kenai, Kodiak, Sitka and Petersburg. Above, this bull moose doubles as the “customer service department” at the Anchorage office near the airport! Like many businesses in Alaska, Avis stocks up for the summertime travel season. Then, when fall arrives (cue the falling leaves!), they sell off the stock instead of shipping the cars south. I’ve bought a couple of cars from them (a Toyota Camry and a Nissan Sentra).
