We love the ferry–and encourage residents and visitors alike to climb on board! Above–pulling into the Port of Wrangell late one August eve. Here in Southcentral Alaska, that includes trips from Whittier to both Valdez and Cordova, Our usual schedule to Kodiak and the Aleutian chain is suspended due to ongoing maintenance on the m/v Tustemena.

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the ferry system, join the fun at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer on Aug. 23. The ferry system is sponsoring “Kids Day” with a “Float Your Boat” contest. Plus, visitors can win valuable prizes, including a $500 gift certificate on the ferry! At right, the mighty m/v Columbia pulls out of Ketchikan, bound for Prince Rupert, BC.

SCHWAGFEST: I’ve gotten a BUNCH of great ferry stories, including this one from Anna A.:

I love the Alaska Ferry! I have been to Alaska numerous times, and it is always on the ferry that I see the most wildlife, see the prettiest scenery, and meet the most interesting people! Hope to do a trip next summer using the ferry as my main transport, and see even more of the coast!

Send me an email HERE and tell me why you love the Alaska ferry, ’cause I still have MORE stickers! Don’t forget to include your name/address/phone number.

It’s a great time to explore Southeast Alaska and the Inside Passage on the ferry! Whether you drive your car on, or just walk aboard the ferry, it’s a great experience. From Juneau, it’s a quick trip to Sitka, Haines or Skagway. I’ve sailed from Juneau south to Wrangell and Ketchikan, too. Don’t miss a great adventure on Alaska’s Marine Highway! Below, powering through Upper Lynn Canal aboard the FFV Fairweather. Ya!
