On our recent visit to Homer, we booked a flight with Maritime Helicopters. Chief Pilot John Jacobs rolled out the Bell 206 Jet Ranger, polished it up and took the door off. Yes, it was a perfectly good door–and it’s all that stood between me and a good video. HA. So–I froze and you get a good view of the Homer Spit, Land’s End Resort, the town of Homer and lovely Kachemak Bay.
John also took a moment to go over some of the safety features of the Bell Helicopter, including: the new emergency locator info, extra protective gear such as helmets, life rafts, fire extinguishers and such. Why all the fuss for a 20-minute flight? Well, air travelers are a VITAL PART of the “Circle of Safety” here in Alaska. It’s a special initiative by the Medallion Foundation and our local Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) office. CLICK HERE to learn more.
