Great photo of the “Log Cabin” by Ron Niebrugge!

Don’t miss the fun in Downtown Anchorage this summer! Every weekend through Sept. 10, the Anchorage Market and Festival (3rd Ave. and E St.) is THE spot for fresh produce, Alaska souvenirs and exotic goods from around the world. There’s free entertainment, an “eat local” section and an Alaska crafts section. Don’t miss it–each Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 6pm.

If the sun is hiding behind the clouds…or there’s more than a drop or two of rain–check out the Anchorage Museum at 7th and C St. In addition to the extensive Alaska history section, there are permanent exhibits featuring some of Alaska’s most-famous artists, including Sydney Laurence and Fred Machetanz. The Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center features more than 600 Alaska Native artifacts from around the state. This state-of-the-art display features interactive displays so you can zoom in close and learn about each item. The kids will love the Imaginarium Discovery Center! Hungry? Check out “Muse”. It’s one of my favorite downtown eateries–and it’s right in the museum!

THIS JUST IN from our friend’s at Cyrano’s Theatre Company at the corner of 4th Ave. and “D” St., downtown: “We have a National Premiere musical, Gold Rush Girls, inspired by Lael Morgan’s classic page-turner Good Time Girls playing now through September 2nd at Cyrano’s!  It is an exuberant new musical about Alaska and the gold rush.  It sparkles with courage, ambition, danger, romance…and a fantastic score and cast!”

For more ideas of what to see and where to go, stop in at the Log Cabin at 4th Ave. and F St. That’s the cabin with the lawn on the roof! Stop in and say hello!!

Check out the website for more deals in and around Anchorage: cruises, packages, fishing trips–and more.
