Make plans to visit “The Moving Wall”, a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.  Brought to Anchorage by area Rotary Clubs, the Moving Wall will be on display at the Delaney Park Strip between June 26 and July 2, 2012. “IN HONOR OF THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE ARMED FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES WHO SERVED IN THE VIETNAM WAR. THE NAMES OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES AND OF THOSE WHO REMAIN MISSING ARE INSCRIBED IN THE ORDER THEY WERE TAKEN FROM US.”

Speaking of Midsummer Nights, it’s time to plan for Anchorage’s downtown Summer Solstice events on June 23, 2012! There’s the world-famous “Mayor’s Marathon”, in addition to a half-marathon, a five-miler and a 1.6-mile Youth Run.

Everyone celebrates the longest day of the year in Anchorage’s Town Square with tons of events packed into one sweet celebration. Live musical performances keep downtown hopping until the sun goes down, a tall order on a day with 22 hours of functional daylight. The Hero Games are a day-long friendly competition between the police, troopers, each military branch and the fire department. Enjoy the heart-pumping adrenaline with entertaining and challenging games such as the obstacle course, a “rescue the cat” climb, litter carry, the bucket brigade and tricycle races.
