“Kia Orana” from the Cook Islands

In Alaska Travelgram by scott

“Kia Orana” is the traditional greeting in the Cook Islands…like “Aloha” in Hawaii.

And now there’s a Hawaiian connection! Fly on Hawaiian’s weekly nonstop flight from Honolulu to Rarotonga. Rarotonga now is part of the Alaska/Hawaiian family of destinations. Fly there and earn miles, or use your frequent flyer points for an award ticket (transfer miles to Hawaiian, then redeem for award tickets).

Stay for a week–or two! Rarotonga is small–it’s just 11 miles around the island. The shoreline is dotted wtih beaches, parks and resorts.

No building is taller than a coconut tree, so the island is strictly low-key. Spend a few days there, then fly to another island: Aitutaki. There’s a reef, a beautiful lagoon and several glorious places to stay.
