This is a great shot (above) taken from the deck at Kennicott Glacier Lodge. Kennicott is your base camp when you visit the historic mining district, in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.

There’s still time to visit Kennicott–and there’s a SPECIAL in August and September: just $99 per night! That’s for “Forest View” rooms in the main lodge. Glacier View rooms are $169 per night. Delicious family-style meals. Comfy accommodations and gracious hospitality.   Book online using the promo code “SPECIAL 17.”  Questions? Call (907)258-2350.

If you’re driving from Anchorage, it’s a good five-hour drive to Chitina, which is on the banks of the Copper River. TIP: F-L-Y the last 60 miles with Wrangell  Mountain Air (pictured, right). The trip from Chitina is a great flightseeing trip over mountain passes and glaciers. Plus, you’ll get a bird’s-eye view of the historic mining district sandwiched between the mountains and the glaciers! Call Wrangell Mountain Air: (800) 478-1160. Also, choose from a variety of flightseeing trips from McCarthy–including wilderness fly-outs!
