This is my first visit to the Kamchatka Peninsula, which is due north of Japan. My home this week is in Yelizovo, outside of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. My host is another Alaskan, Martha Madsen of Explore Kamchatka. She has a small guest house. Each day, we’ve gone exploring up in the hills, to town, to the market, to a Rotary Club meeting and the hot springs. Here are some photos. Also, I wrote a story in the Alaska Dispatch News.
