What’s the hottest travel story in Alaska right now? Our own fickle, impetuous Mt. Redoubt (photo: Rob Stapleton).
She has her own Facebook page. Everybody, including the Alaska Volcano Observatory, is watching her. And yes, the ash is falling here in Anchorage (just a trace, tho’).
Heck, the airlines have spooled up their Twitter pages to alert people when–at a moment’s notice–they have to cancel all their flights.

Everybody’s on edge, waiting to see if they’ll be able to leave on their trip, get back or go and meet people at the airport. Yes, we’re taping the windows and covering the fancy electronics.
Anchorage is the largest community to be affected by the periodic ash clouds drifting hither and yon. But airports in Homer and Kenai also have had periodic flight suspensions. Flights to Nome, Kotzebue, Bethel and several other communities have been canceled or curtailed, depending on the whim of our neighborhood volcano.
Stay tuned for details on Mt. Redoubt’s next blah-blah blast-off…and how it affects travelers throughout the state. Jeez.
